Under the critical eyes from Shota Rustaveli we started our first real workshop day. In the morning the participants of CCC5 were mapping the main religious sites. Four groups of students had to orient themselves in the city of Batumi, to find the mosque, the Armenian and Catholic church, the Orthodox Cathedral and the synagoge. The groups had to get in contact with the people at the site in order to get some preliminary information. In the afternoon the groups presented their findings in the plenary session.
During this morning the supervisors of CCC discussed with our local organiser Ruslan Baramidze various possible research topics. Even though each group should select on their own the subjec they are working on the organisers want to provide some points of entry. In addition to this we need the authorisation of the local mufti, bishop etc.
In the afternoon, after the student’s presentation, Ruslan Baramidze spoke on the history of the Adjara reasons and discussed impressively the debate around the building of a new mosque in Batumi. He showed the different interests of the parties involved.
