Mosque in Batumi (P: wiki commons)

On April 5 Caucasus Conflict Culture will start in Batumi. For ten days we will be together in the Georgian city of Batumi on the Black Sea. Of course, this is not for tourism (even we are all looking forward to stay at the sea), but to work in multinational student teams on the topic of contested religious spaces in Adjara. Because of a long Ottoman history this Georgian region has an important heritage of Muslim traditions and also an important contemporary Muslim religious practice can be witnessed. It is discussed, for example, the building of a second mosque in Batumi – a project not supported by various actors in the region for different reasons. You will find at this place and through our Facebook page information and pictures on the ongoing project.
